Talking $20 Black Carpet Mod D.I.Y

Just want to share this to those who have nasty looking carpets and cant afford to replace them completely. Walmart sells replacement black carpet in the automotive section."Remington Industries Carpet Replacement, Black".

Supplies
2 rolls of the black carpet, carpet or headliner glue, scissors, basic tools and a vacuum.

1st step. Remove the seats, seat belt lock, any trim that touches the floor carpet and center console. Vacuum the factory carpets as clean as you can.

2nd step. You lay out the new carpet over the old one. 1 roll fits the length and width of one side of the car. cut it to the shape of the floor. its going to have overlap where the floor curves up. i just cut it nicely after i glued it.

3rd step. Remove the new carpet and spray your glue over your old carpet. Then fit the new carpet on top. once its in, lay down old magazines or something with weight around the corners until the glue drys.

4th step. Cut the holes for the seat bolts, seat belt lock, and gas door lever. then reassemble.

Be very patient and it will come out nice. i rushed one side and i got wrinkles and i cut it too short. i took my time with the other side and it came out nice. The carpet looks 100% better than before and has been in the car for about 3 months with no problems or fading. You get what you pay for, so don't expect oem results. imo its comparable to the regular 1 piece replacements that are $100+. Before and After pics included

How long did it take you to just do the carpet? Like a rough guesstimate.

took me about an hour, but my seats and trim were already unbolted and out. i let the carpet sit overnight so that the glue would dry good before i did anything else tho

Looks good. I also debated this as I covered my door cards and sun roof in black suede. How does the carpet look in comparison to the rear? I always felt like that would look off (half blue/ half black).

well to me, it looks fine because i have a black and grey theme for now. but you can always use the same carpet to do the back which is what im planing to do later.

Oh alright so the carpet part of the mod is more of an over night thing to make sure it properly sets and glues?

I'll be interested to see how you deal with all the exposed edges in the rear.

iirc just the 2 bolts in the front and 2 in the back, the bolts sometimes get rusty tho, might have to spray it up and play them to get them out without breaking.

I have to ask, why did you put new over the old? Just curious.

Looks great, the last automotive carpet I did was some green indoor/outdoor carpet I did to my s10 and some decent adhesive would have been great to hold the carpet still lol.

The old carpet is molded and has padding/backing, the black carpet doesn't, so I kept it to help retain the factory shape
