RX-7 FD Registry Is Live and Launched!
Hi FD owners and enthusiasts.
I've always believed that a missing piece of the FD community is an online vehicle registry to showcase the remaining examples of the quintessential 90s Japanese sports car.
Today I pull back the curtain on the RX-7 FD Registry.
Please check it out and get your car listed. Share the link with friends and other owners and let's get as many cars registered.
The site is a work in progress. Thanks in advance for your input and feedback.
Cheers and Happy New Year to everyone!

This is my car.
(haha, I just realized that the back button doesn't work on this link....oh well!)

Agreed that something like this is overdue. I've thought for the past dozen years that we needed something like this. It's taken me longer than I expected to get this put together and it evolved to be better than I imagined actually. We need all of the users of the forum to register to build the most thorough registry as possible!

Did you see the map?
https://www.rx7fdregistry.com/map
From the registry it auto populates based on Google Map data. It's generic (city based) so that as the registry grows there will be a record of vehicles by city/state/area.
It would be nice to get your registrants to add their data to the registry.
Cheers

If I’m not an investment owner or considering selling it…what’s the purpose of a registry other than curiosity?
And is this one differenti than the other one?

Hey thanks for registering everyone! Great detail on the mods and your stories about purchasing your cars. It's exactly this kind of timeline and historical record that I'm hoping to chronicle and archive. Having a recorded archive of these vehicles will help preserve and enhance value!

Anyhow, with respect to the FD community, we all know that our vehicles are special. They are unique, and you see fewer and fewer of them around. How many are left? Well, unless a serious effort is made to try to find, detail and register as many as possible, we won't know.
We own these vehicles because they have some special meaning for us, right? I mean, if it was just about transportation and reliability, we probably wouldn't be hanging onto our complicated almost 30 year old rotary powered mistresses. What's the purpose? Well, the registry I've put together allows us to share all of the foundational details about our cars (model, trim, options) but also more of what drives our passion, namely the modifications we've made, the stories about our car that we want to share, and importantly pictures.
How is this one different than the registry you mentioned set up by Railgun? Well that is simply a list. It is a good first effort but without it being a website per se, it's not crawled by Google so searchability is nil. There are no photos and the data entry isn't consistent or enforced.
I would think that anyone active on these forums has some high-octane fuel running through their veins and isn't necessarily an FD investor, flipper or with an exit strategy on their car but they do enjoy discussing, sharing and being part of the community. That's the reason for the registry.

From a collectors standpoint, being able to confidently know how many of the 452 R2 performance models remain intact and 'out there', or how many of the 351 R1 models in Competition Yellow Mica that are roadworthy is something that will support and bolster the collectible value of these increasingly rare Japanese classics for years to come
Interesting. I was under the impression that all USDM FD's are twin turbo, have the same power output (no matter the trim), came with indistinguishable badging, and therefore they are all performance models. Even the automatics... So I take it this registry is a count of R cars vs everything else because if one breaks down production numbers per trim they are all on the low side:
PEP auto = 36
Base auto = 535
Touring auto = 1414
PEP manual = 1209
Base manual = 2116
R = 2117
Touring manual = 5961
Turns out any given year the Base cars whether they were auto or manual had the lowest production numbers.

Needless to say there's a disparity between the thread and the site in that there are far more vehicles in that list than the site. At the same time, I'd be willing to bet that, insofar as owner info, that list is probably 20% accurate at best.
@BCR2FD I'm happy that you were able to get this going. I thought I did register on there once upon a time, but seems I didn't. I'll get on that.

Hey there, thanks for following up. The site has been live and active for about a year now. There are close to 100 registered cars. I haven't devoted any time to promotion and that's really what needs to happen. I think that the site is pretty decent. Please give any feedback. I'm disappointed that the site hasn't gained more traction. Maybe people don't see any value in it? Who knows.
