LSD has to be from 81-early 83 gsl rx7.
I got one for sale for the right price

Looks good..... So it is possible put the GSL disk brake set up as a direct bolt on to the RX3?

Hilux rear is the same as the 4runner I believe.
But your best bet is to do the ford explorer 8.8 rear diff.its a 8.8 31 spline with limited slip but would need to be resized to fit.

You would only need those type of rear ends if running big horsepower but for n/a applications you might be able to get away with just the rx7 gsl third member and disk brakes.

Thanks, is there anyone in USA running a 4runner 3rd member in a rx3? Heard of the Ford rear end, but that's to much for my application. What is the best way of finding our if a vehicle is equipped with an LSD without taking the diff apart or doing donuts?

Depending on the car.
If your looking at the 81-83 rx7 diff it would be the gsl model,disk brakes.
You can also spin it from where the driveshaft bolts up to and make sure both wheels spin the same direction.
If you are looking at the explorer diffs best years are from 95-97 and the door tag under axle would be D2,D4,D3.
D2 would be the best gear ratio for a rotary which is 4.10

I was thinking about doing the same but did you use the whole axle assembly as it is wider track on the RX7 and probably wouldn't fit by my calculations . Or did you just use the diff / 3rd member portion ?
By the way , when is test and tune day ?

I used the 3rd member and adapter brackets for the brakes.

I found a number of forum posts indicting that the RX3 axles would bind in the 3rd member unless some material was removed from the end of the axle. All my test fits indicated no binding and I did not shorten the axles. So far so good.

I've got the leaking oil pressure gauge issue resolved and she is running predictable, idle around 900, sounding good.

Tied up with some side work to pay for the recovered seats. Still have to get some jets.

My body guy is taking the car back for a few days next month to tidy a few things up, Then I want to take it up to CR.

Cool , keep me updated. I have been busy building engines so the car has stalled but I want to get doing the rear end soon as I have those Konis now too. Back to the LSD question though ; the snout / pinion length was different I seem to remember so if I put my 7 LSD in the 3 housing , will I have to change driveshaft length? I currently have the 808 auto 4:11 diff in there now.

You can transfer the or install the 808s ring and pinion on an 81-83 lsd

A Mazda rear end will break the first time the car really hooks up, Make sure you installed steel caps on the 8.8 rear end. the factory cast caps become the weak link.

Just really looking for a Mazda LSD to fit in the original diff and convert to disk brakes. Are the guys making the disk brake conversion kit still around?
