Question How much for an oil pan gasket job?

OK I really don't feel like doing it. I had the money so I sent it out to a specialty rx7 shop. $230.00 for the job. The thing is he isn't using the Mazda gasket, he is using somthing like r-12, something like that. It's an adhesive. he says the Mazda oil pan gasket will just leak again and with this it won't happen anymore.

Is $230.00 a good price?

What he said is exactly true. The mazda gasket is a recal it isn't supposed to be used.

Make sure he drains everything and then lets it sit for about a day for the adhesive to totally dry without touching it. I heard that if you do it this way it will never leak again.

Yeah $230 sounds like a good price just don't think of it as a $230 oil change

Hmmm, I've never heard of using R-12 as an oil pan sealant. It's a refrigerant. But yeah, if it doesn't leak again $230.00 is a good price. Oh, by the way, he did add some nice flat stainless steel washers under the bolts to more evenly distribute the torque, right?

If not, he should be

Love that smiley, lol.

I know R-12 is a regrigerent, I just heard a mumble when he said that. He is Puerto Rican with an accent so I couldn't really understand. So I thought I herad that. About the stainless steel washers, I have no idea but I hope he does.

He probably said RTV wich is a gasket sealer/maker. Ultra Black RTV is my best friend. I use it almost exclusivly in place of gaskets.

I like the rtv grey or hondabond to be the best stuff. The oil pan job is a 5 hour job, so i guess his hourly rate is around $60.

Useing sealer only is the way Garfinkle does it ,he lets the car sit for three days drying time because he uses hondabond or toyotabond, the mazda sealer cost way to much, no return leaks todate.
