Metal lathe projects???
Went over to my dads place a few days ago and he had to show me his new(to him) metal lathe, needless to say hes really happy with it. Guy who sold it to him gave him gave him a bunch of extra tools for it.
Anyways hes excited and its cool but Im just drawing a blank as to what projects I could start turning out on this lathe. I thought about making a shift **** 150mm long, 42mm diameter, taper on the bottom 50mm (from 42mm diam to 30mm), Small chamfer on the top, and knurling on the top 100mm. Not sure out of what metal yet, steel would be wayyy to heavy, but thats something Ill figure out later. Other than that I have no idea what to make.
Ideas... anyone... Bueller?

As far as pulleys, I have no metal lathe experience... so not even I would trust my work unless I had the part in front of me to copy to make replicas. Even then I am not sure how it would turn out.

You could make a steel one, make it a bit smaller and put a thick rubberized type coating on it. Even if it did turn out a bit heavy, it'd be an item I'd be interested in.

Well after sourcing a chunk of steel for free and making up some crude plans I finished up my first practice piece on the lathe. Id call it a project but it was more or less just something to practice basics(face cutting/truing, surfacing, chamfer/bevel cuts).
Anyways... PICTARS!
Made from 35mm diameter steel stock... approx 10 to 12 in long (leftover piece in pic)
Detail of top bevel/chamfer and knurling
From bottom before the threads were drilled and cut
In car next to stock **** at the same level as the top of the lock nut(its in 1st gear)
All by itself... nvm the dirty grey carpets.
Final specs are 35mm diam at the top grip portion, 60mm from the bottom the stepped pattern begins(diam as follows top to bottom 35mm>30mm>25mm>20mm). Overall length is 150mm. Threads were m12x1.50(1986 w/s4 tranny).
It does weigh quite a bit but it helps with a smoother shifting action(you actually have weight to throw around), tho without a short shifter the throw is redonkulas! Im more suprised with how comfortable it is, resting hand on top for cruising and then having a full solid grip when getting more aggressive.
Overall Im happy, might not be everyones taste but idgaf haha. It was fun to make and it does make me want to turn out some more parts but that will have to wait.
Wouldnt mind comments, questions, or new fresh ideas! (criticism welcome)
